Just saved it from an ACE but it is my first. What would you do to start helping the state its in? Soil is dry and on the firmer side. Leaves are soft but don’t feel normal if that makes sense? Please help!

It looks like it’s in a pot liner, if it is, when you take the inside pot out, can you see roots through the drainage holes?

I can barely see the tips of a few and they don’t look healthy, they aren’t white but aren’t black. Are hard-ish and sort of brown looking.

I would say gently dream up the top layer of soil as much as possible, and give it a good watering, then let it settle into its new environment. Trim off any damaged leaves/vines, and see what it does. They are pretty hardy! It may benefit from repotting, but it may not be necessary, so I’d hold off and see how it does first. Make sure it doesn’t sit in water that’s collected in outside pot.

It may have been dry-rotted. Thats when they underwater a plant to where the roots shrivel so much that when re-hydrated, they just turn to rotted mush. You should take it out of the pot and check roots very soon. Remove any rot & replace soil in new pot. Question: when you save a plant from a big box store like ACE, is it deeply discounted or free? Or still full price?

It was $6, 75% off. These are the roots, what do you think?

looks like she’s definitely ready for a new pot, from the pic the roots don’t look dark enough to have rotted. When picking your next pot make sure it’s only one size up and you have aroid soil ☺️

Looks like there are a combination of shriveled and dryroted roots snd healthy roots. I would give this a super good soak and see after soaking which roots are still viable, and cut away/remove any that aren’t to prevent rot from spreading. Hopefully its mostly just root bound and after doing the soil & root clean-up and giving it new soil and a new pot, all will be well again soon.
