Hi yâall! Iâm normally a Pothos Parent and I got a Monstera in October of 2022. Now hereâs the question: they are VERY top heavy which I wasnât expecting. What are your tips or products for me to best keep him up and help him out? Iâm McGivering over here to keep myself from running into the leaves or having the pot fall over!
Hi Cloud! He needs a sturdier pot, plastic wonât do. When you repot him later this summer (if he wasnât repotted when you got him, otherwise next summer), put him in ceramic, terracotta, stone, heavy vinyl, or something else sturdy. He also needs a longer moss pole. Your pole should be at the back of the plant (where all the aerial roots are coming from) and reach your tallest leaves, or taller if heâs growing rapidly, so you donât have to switch it out too soon.

1 gillaOr you can just buy a heavy pot to place his plastic pot in! Thatâs what I do.

A few things. Thereâs two plants in there and theyâre facing different directions. The next time you repot, you should bring them closer together and face them the same direction. Place the moss pole behind them, where the aerial roots are. Also, donât upsize the pot too much if you have to. I made that mistake when I first got mine. Make sure itâs well draining- a lot of people suggest an aroid mix.
