Hi! New plant enthusiast here. So I won a Monstera Bulbasaur in an auction on Palmstreet. It was a bit of a panic buy because I know theyâre expensive and this one was under $20 đźâđš Itâs my first monstera ever and I want all the tips and advice. Iâve got orchids, pothos, peperomias and maranthas as well as a little container garden on my back porch so Iâm not totally new to plants but Iâve recently gotten into houseplants in addition to outdoor gardening.
variegated monstera are prone to root rot. all monstera are prone to mites and thrips. as soon as it arrives, check soil and roots for any signs of rot (trust me, you'll know if it's rotting, it'll stink). if it came to you in an aroid mix, keep it there. if not, transfer to a very well draining mix. monstera have a "front" and "back" of the stem, the front is where all leaves are facing and the back is where they all face away from. they naturally grow on trees and you will have the quickest, prettiest growth if you give it something to climb on asap. monstera do not like to be rotated like other houseplants, they enjoy having light from a single direction, and they prefer to face their light source directly. also, $20 for a bulbasaur?? whaaat??
