Ummm, help please? Is this truly an Esqueleto? I was just looking online to see how I could maybe cut the vine and propagate it, and also to see what other people are doing with these long vines (design wise), and no other Esqueleto images showed runners like this. I got it about a month ago and the vine has added 3 new leaves with another forming and has grown by about a foot. Design wise, I was thinking this would be one I would run up the wall, but I was thinking I would prop it first to get a couple more vines, but now I am not sure if the vine is even normal or if I prop it, would it stay a vine? Do people usually make these fuller with a couple of extra plants, or just use the one plant? (Most recent pic on left)

I know esqueleto, adansonii, and obliqua can look similar when the plants are still young. I will put a grain of salt on my opinion since I’ve personally only owned adansonnii so far. However, yours looks like the stems are thicker and the leaves look a bit sturdier than my adansonnii. So I’m leaning towards it being esqueleto. Has it been growing in lower light? That could cause a climbing plant to stretch out and look more vine-y. Lastly, can I ask if you got it from a plant shop, regular garden store, or from another hobbyist? Sometimes that can give clues too

I got it on PalmStreet from a guy who sells plants for a little cheaper than other people. I like him because of that, but I do know that gives risks of its condition (like some of these leaves were browned when it came in) or what it even is, although he seems more knowledgeable than some of the other sellers. I have bought quite a lot from him. Since having it, I have had it under a grow light with my other plants which are doing good. I will add a pic of where it is right this moment. I have moved it around the top shelf a bit as the top vine got longer. It was hanging off the right side, but we kept smacking the vine in our face 😆.

I also do have an adonsonii that I got on PalmStreet from @Rareplantfairy. It’s still young but I do know they prop and grow most of their own stuff, and this one was a reverted variegated adonsonii that I got for cheaper (since it reverted), but you can tell the plant quality difference).

Okay yeah, it definitely looks a bit different from the adansonnii. I find that those kinds of sellers tend to have accurate identifications actually, since plants are usually their passion as well as their side hustle. I wish I had experience with esqueleto to draw on here as to why it’s vining 🤔 Maybe they only grow compact when they have something to attach to As for your other post questions, it definitely should be propable! It would slow down growth progress for a while, but if you’re like me you don’t mind playing the long game for display plants ☺️ One method I might do would be to chop it so that the base of the plant with the roots has about 3 or 4 leaves attached. Then get that part potted up with something to climb on like a moss pole, cedar plank, or cork bark (I’ll find some inspo pics to show you what I’m envisioning). Then with the part you cut off, you can root in water or something like sphagnum moss. It looks like you could make two or three sections out of that part. Some people cut their props down to one node per section, but I think that’s unnecessary unless you want a really full pot of it

So it looks like esqueleto love a moss pole! I’d say this option is mid price range if you diy, but it can be high if you buy pre-made depending on the kind of pole

Cedar plank is the cheap option 👍

And cork bark can be expensive at large sizes, but oh so pretty
