Please help! I’ve had this monstera cutting (water propagated from someone) for over 1.5 years and 1) only two leaves have ever grown since, 2) the leaves have never begun fenestration, and 3) two leaves have yellowed so badly I had to cut one off (and a giant aerial root grew in its place). This leaf is now yellow and brown. Should I chop it at the stem? I’ve been hoping for so long another leaf would grow but they haven’t. Any tips? I water it in the shower every 10 days or so. I have grow lights. I use liquid fertilizer every other watering.

kinda looks like damage from overwatering, definitely check for pests on the undersides of the leaves tho

Interesting. Never seen any pests! I let it drain for sure, but the leaves droop so much between watering I haven’t spread it out. I could try 12 days between if you think it would help?

Do you check the soil before you water?

It’s usually totally dry! It’s got a lot of aeration.

So if its always dry clear down then you might need to water more often. Not that you need to water when its still damp, but it might be dry for several days beforehand and it won't like that.

Any green on the plants is going to provide the plants with photosynthesis. So even if they have brown edges, keep letting them take in light. Any natural nutrients will help slowly get this baby bigger and better.

That aerial root could've been redirected into the soil - it gives it another "anchor" which encourages it to grow as it thinks it's even more stable. Give it a shot!

Thank you! I was worried I would snap it… any advice on doing that now since it’s already so long?

I'm not sure if you can bury one that long (I haven't peeked at what happened to mine after they hit the soil line, but will repot mine this spring to find out). If you're repotting it, maybe bury the end of it with the rest of the roots. I've also just chopped them off too as I can't always be bothered to watch them grow long enough to get to the dirt level. 😄
