Need help identifying my Adansonii! When purchased at the nursery… | Monstera Maniacs | Communauté Planta

Need help identifying my Adansonii! When purchased at the nursery (Jan 2024), the plant was labeled as the Mint variety. The plant was ~8 inches tall with 2 leaves. It is now a little over 3 feet tall and had been successfully propagated once. The variegation is also stable so far. I’m just now unsure that it is truly a Mint! Any insight is greatly appreciated :)

They can vary. This is my mint (ignore the look alike on the left. That's a mint laniata)

This is a tricolor. Both can have sectoral type variegation too. But so far my mint is just fully varigated, like a monster

Beautiful! The plant gets the ideal amount of light and the leaves have gotten much larger than the first photo I attached. It seems to me like my plant is much closer to the Indonesian Marble than your mint or the reference photo.

This is rhaphidophora tetrasperma, but for context, what i mean by a mint being sectoral

Also, the leaves on my plant are much longer with larger fenestrations. This is even the case with the oldest leaves.

Allegedly the indo marble/mint/cloud is the same plant as the mint. There’s a “euro” version and a “indo” version. (This is hearsay from the interwebs)

My mint would be considered “Indonesian” if the above is true

Whereas Wolfens above would be “European”

That all makes sense. I’m just even more confused because mine has traits from both the euro and indo mint 🤨

The variegation is not evenly distributed, and it also has both green and white variegation. Also, thanks everyone who has responded :)

I would consider yours an Indonesian as well. The Indos can have more white like yours but aren’t evenly variegated with the high with. This is more of the European look

Mine is an important from Japan. And is probably only about 6 month old plant. So no large leaves yet. It also came from Kunzo, who puts out a huge amount of cultivars.

If your plant was a cutting vs seed or TC. It could have started pushing out adult leaves immediately. Which may be why they are larger with more fenestration. Mine are definitely not what they will look like mature

Yours reminds me more of the Laniata mints that are sectoral.. not the straight Adansonii. I kinda of suspect it's the subspecies. (Though both can come in this type of variegated)

That is by far the closest I’ve seen so far! I think this might be it.

So the Monstera Laniata, is a subspecies of Adansonii. They are very similar. That first pic i posted showing my Adansonii mint, you can see the Laniata mints to the left. And at first glance they look same but noticeably different leaf shape and fenestration when you look closer

I totally thought it was a monkey mask when I first saw the picture! Now I really wanna go get one for myself. I hope you figure out what it is exactly!
