This is my girl. She is about 2.5 years old. I know she isn’t getting enough light, only morning-noon. This is the only window I can have her. I just feel like she isn’t as “pretty” as others I see. The most “slits” she has is two on only one leaf. I know she’s still pretty young, but I see people post pics of theirs either lots of “holes and slits” on younger plants. Once my garden seedlings are ready to go outside I’m going to put my grow light on her. Any suggestions?? There are three vines in the pot. Also, the pot isn’t as small as it looks, I took this pic at a weird angle and makes it look tiny. I promise it’s not a tiny pot.

      Thank you! I have a nice grow light, but my food garden plant babies are using it, I’ll move it to this beauty in a few weeks.

    Yes a growlight will help. I think she looks healthy and young. Maybe a trellis would make it look nicer but i think just patience and maybe some fertilizer is all you need. 😉

      Thank you! Yeah, right now I just have a green stake, I’m thinking about getting one of those living moss poles that you water so the aerial roots can attach to it. I have a nice grow light, but right now my food, seed babies are using it

    My personal opinion is that pot size doesn’t matter as long as you’re fertilizing on schedule, have something to climb, and repotting yearly, but trimming the root ball by 30% if deciding to keep it in the same size pot yearly. If you’re not changing out the soil completely when repotting, at least add amendments to the existing soil. The holes and slits are called fenestration, I learned it from another Planta user. I agree with Plantpa and Nunya, it needs more light, especially if you want fenestration.

    pot size isn't crazy important, the aerial roots take up moisture from the air, which is why humidity is a big deal. i encourage you to separate the stems to make her easier to wrangle, but if that's not an option right now, it won't kill her. fenestrations (the holes and slits) aren't a sign of health per se, moreso maturity and light levels. she looks perfectly healthy, but a grow light will definitely help if fenestrations are your goal. if you do decide to separate it will be a lot easier to put them on a support to climb— which doesn't only mean a moss pole! i've used cedar planks for mine and they love it all the same. it just takes them a little longer to grab onto it themselves.

      Awesome, thank you for the wonderful advice! Yeah, the three vines I could separate, they’re not totally twisted together, but I’m afraid if I separate them all, then the plants will look totally bare. Maybe this is horrible advice but I read somewhere if you want your plant to look thick plant at least 3 to 4 vines in one pot. Was that bad advice? Lol.

      probably 🤣 monstera do better when it's just one stem in the pot. if you're looking for fullness, you could always chop her up

    Well you can never have enough grow lights.       Thank you for this comment and the recommendation! The grow light I have is a professional one that hands above the plant. I do have two other grow light but they have to be so close to the plant or they literally do nothing. They were just cheap ones off Amazon. Ya know the kind that clamps on to something and has two lights coming off but the lights are super skinny and maybe 8 inches long? So they really only do anything to like two leaves. I did have them on the youngest leaves for awhile and I noticed those two leaves developed new leaves seemly a lot faster!! Thanks so much!!

      And your girl is BEAUTIFUL. See, this is my goal. But mine just keep growing higher and higher, I know they are climbing plants, but I don’t know why others look like yours and mine just grow up and up.

    Mine was about half the size of yours with very few slits as well. I decided to cut it up into a bunch of cuttings, throw it in a vase for awhile, and then repotted it. That way instead of being tall, it’s more bushy, and I got rid of all the cuttings without slits. Mine was also super reactive to light and didn’t get enough light. I know it’s a big jump, but I’m glad I did it! Thought I might share what I had done to give you more ideas other than a grow light!

    Here is a great grow light from Amazon. I have 10 of these lights and every single plant under them are thriving. I don't think you will be disappointed
