So... I am broke, I have an unruly adopted monstera that needs support, and I have a fab 3d-printed moss pole and a few bricks of coco coir. What I do not have, dear friends, is moss. I can wait like... 6 weeks, maybe 2 months, to be able to scrape together $20 for sphagnum moss, or I can fill the pole with coco coir and like... Stuff moss into it when I can afford some. Thoughts?

Cut a branch down from outside and use that!

Does it need to be fresh or could I pick one up that fell naturally? There's a ton of forest around me but not many trees on the property.

Like said below, that would work! I’ve used a dead branch that fell on my street before! Drug it home, propped it up down the dirt and strapped her up and she climbed it!

I 2nd the outdoor stick option. You can mix moss, perlite and bark, to kinda bring the cost down. Ive even seen folks use the same potting mix in ones with backing and smaller mesh

Huh... I have perlite and chunky orchid bark. And a small amount of sphagnum I've been growing in a pie tin. I may have more options than I thought!

Yea I've been seeing it more and more, and a few people I follow with huge plants seem to be using it more. It seems to have less rot issues than straight moss. When i do my next repot, I plan to move all moss poles to this mix
