I’m a new monstera momma as of today. Me and my Auntie go to our first babies together! Do all of her leaves look okay?Do I need to cut any of them off to allow new leaves? Also do new leaves that haven’t gotten holes yet tend to be very soft and thin? And curly? Thanks guys!! I just want her to thrive!!

I’m still new to monsteras but if the soil is on the dry side it may need a mist. If there’s anything I’ve learned from buying new plants though it’s to slowly let them acclimate and not go into full care and stress it out. I even slowly move mine into the appropriate lighting for an adjustment period.

leaves that have opened without fenestrations won’t develop them over time. don’t let that discourage you though ! the older the plant gets and the more it photosynthesizes , the greater the chance of leaves developing with its fenestrations :) i also learned that when the new leaves are still curling , watering the monstera will open it up a bit more and it’ll remain soft until it’s gotten a bit older. chopping won’t necessarily encourage new leaves but giving your monstera something to climb on (like a trellis or moss pole) WILL encourage greater growth in both the size of its leaves and the height of the overall plant !

So what normally happens when a leaf is uncurling and half of its not there? I did repot it

it’s typically due to dryness or low humidity. in some cases it can also be due to being ripped when unfurling. i don’t think it’s anything major to worry about unless there’s other issues that come with it like browning of the leaves but maybe change it to a spot where it’s a bit more humid or mist it a tad more frequently to avoid it from happening again :)

My pothos get new leaves that are only half and I just chop them 😳

completely fine with pothos ! they’ll actually grow new shoots from the stem you cut unlike the monstera

All new leaves will be softer. They'll harden off eventually. As she gets older, new leaves will have the fenesteations (holes). I don't remember technical terms, but if you stake her, don't tie up the part of the stem that goes straight to the leaf. That part moves with the light source. I keep mine facing the window all the time. That way she grows all one way and there is a very clear black of the plant to stake. I'm still learning and it's a lot of fun!!
