It’s been about two weeks with my Monstera! I had a hard time in the beginning adapting to help it grow (as well as my spider plant) What’s some tricks to benefit my monstera, I have gotten a light lamp since I don’t have enough sunlight through the day! How much does everyone water and how much water is good! Any advice would help! 🌱

I’m glad you have a grow light on it, but if that light is the one I think it is (Sansi), then I don’t think the wattage is high enough for a monstera that size. You don’t water it with a certain amount, you water so that the soil is fully saturated. Most people recommend that you should see the water come out the drainage holes, but that could be deceiving, so check to make sure your pot is heavy or use your finger or chopstick to ensure that the soil is wet all the way through

I have a Thai con around the same size that I’m watering 1-2 times a month during the summer. Monsteras are very forgiving so I let mine dry out completely in between waterings to prevent root rot. I only saturate the soil when I’m adding fertilizer and/or insecticide to the water, otherwise I bottom water.

Overwatering isn’t necessarily about too much water at one time, but watering too frequently. I usually water my monsteras when the top quarter to third of the soil is dry. You can get a moisture meter, but the easy DIY I do is with a plastic chopstick. I measure outside the pot how far down 1/4-1/3 of the pot height is and then stick it into the soil, if it comes out dry (no soil on it) then it’s time to water. I completely soak it until water runs out the bottom (or stick in a big container and let it suck up all the water it wants) and then leave it be until it dries out again.
