✨Please Don’t Judge✨ I have had my plant since October (bought from a grocery store floral department) and initially it was doing well and had way more leaves. In late November, most of the leaves turned yellow or completely died. I cut off the dead parts and am left with what is in the picture. I have checked for root rot, but I don’t exactly know if has it or not…I went ahead and changed out the soil and added a grow light d/t my room not having much sunlight. She’s still just not doing well 😭 I want to save this plant, it’s my favorite!! Any suggestions? All advice is appreciated!

If it has root rot I think the roots would be discolored and mushy. If it does have root rot removing the damaged roots would help

Removing damaged roots and spraying with 3% hydrogen peroxide before repotting into a chunky soil mix. It looks dehydrated so I would go with root rot. You need to rinse all soil from the roots then snip the dead parts off.

if you think the roots are rotting, sniff them. if they're actually rotting they don't smell very nice. if no rot, just smells like dirt. they like humidity but mine do not like to be misted. clay or terracotta pots are better for root rot, as they absorb moisture.

My suggestion is to untie the plant, as it looks like the petioles are tied together, which can restrict leaf movement. You'll want to secure the main stem. Monstera's can be confusing when it comes to staking properly. Unfortunately it won't let me add a link, but I suggest watching "Kill this plant" on YouTube. He has tons of videos on everything you need to know about Monstera's. It also may be beneficial and less stress on you to add a larger support right from the start as she will outgrow this board in no time.Best of luck! 🙂

Be careful with the grow light, I see a lot of people on here burning their monsteras. It’s mostly the monkey masks I see this with, but it happens to the others too. I wouldn’t put it too close because these do grow in the understories of tropical forests, so they don’t get bright direct light in nature. Also root rot kills plants from the bottom up, so you would see the yellowing and death start at the base of your plant. If the roots looked felted together, that’s a good sign it’s rotted. If the yellowing starts on the tips of the leaves I doubt it’s root rot, that seems to me like too little water or not enough light.
