Sorry for the jump scare! This is my friend’s very bald-headed monstera adansonii that I’m trying to revive and rehabilitate. It’s been living high on a shelf, and while next to a sliding by door, was too high to get enough light. I just brought it home today (it’s on my porch away from my plants + indirect sunlight & humidity for it) and I will be working on it in a couple days. Other possible issues: - Root bound - Nutrient poor - There were bobby pins holding old bald vine coiled into the pot. These were rusted and choking the plant. - I also think maybe one of the cats peed in the pot at some point based on the smell even though it was up high. This I’m not sure on as I’m not a cat person. What I can say though is I’ve washed my hands and showered and my fingers still smell weird. 🤢 I’ve watched a lot of videos, but would love to hear how y’all would go about trying to save this plant!

I’d repot and cut it straight back to the leaves. If you care enough you might have nodes to propagate the stems. For pot size it may or may not be root bound, my adansonii loves to fill his pot but he’s also much healthier than this guy. Be cautious introducing fertilizer because plants that have been on a deficit are more sensitive to the full dosage listed and may burn and die. Start with a diluted dose of like 1/4 or 1/5 of what it says, then move up slowly. Btw cat urine smells like ammonia, you know it when you smell it 😷

Cat urine smells like a weird funk to me, not ammonia šŸ˜† šŸ˜‚

That’s definitely what it is then. šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«. Fortunately I have new soil I can use for a repot.

I'd definitely repot, and soak the plant to remove any residual. They will often lose leaves with low light and lack of care. If you find its root bound I would just cut off 1/4 of the roots and keep it in a similar size pot. You could also do some scoring of nodes and keiki paste application to try and get it to re-leaf. But just the better care you plan, plus better light, it should perk up quickly

I do have keki paste so I might try a few and see how it goes!

I saw it at its best and it was gorgeous! My friend has gone through a lot of (positive) life changes recently, but it means there hasn’t been as much time for her plants.
