Just bought my first 4 plants and I want to create a plant room out of my office. How do I plan the space out? What shelves to get where etc. Feeling overwhelmed but I want to get started! 😅

    My method has been running on hopes and vibes lol. As the plants I have grow and I accumulate more, I buy more shelves and redesign the space and such. I like the fluidity of being able to do whatever whenever and not be worried about a plan I'm trying to achieve. All cabinets, stands, and lights are from Amazon. I like the wire shelves as they allow for airflow around the plants and they can be shifted up and down depending on the height of the plants. The couple orange lights in the cabinet are DOMMIA; not a fan of their color, but otherwise nice little lights. The rest are LBWs and I can't recommend them enough; I like them so much I started using them for my aquarium too.

    Is that a closed cabinet? I have so much gnats and flies.

      If you're asking about mine, it's got a metal mesh front, but is otherwise enclosed (NOT sealed though). I like Natures Good Guys for pest control; I've got beneficial insects in all my plants. I also leave green and clear sticky traps throughout because I can see immediately when my beneficial insect population needs upped to keep up with any appearing pests.

    Eventually you get so many plants that it doesn’t matter anymore so just do what your heart wants!! I get more plants and then it needs to be rearranged again anyways, so I say if something feels right do it! I’d always start with a good shelf and then went further into stands and stools for larger plants. This is my reading room/study area (I’m in grad school) and it still changes every now and then!     For the darkest part of the room, do shelf or cabinet for supplies (soil, extra pots, misting bottles, watering cans, whatever else you use). Pick a few spots for big showpiece type plants and give them space for large pots or stands to sit on. Map out the space in terms of light levels, and create brighter spots with lights or shadier spots for plants that like that. Then pick some nice shelves or other furniture for plants to sit on (use your vertical space with tall shelving, hanging baskets, or wall mounts.) Add some seating for enjoying it all. Also consider if you want to do a terrarium cabinet. In general, go for a layout that avoids shading any part of the room so you get maximum plant space. You could do a low coffee table in the middle too.
