    I have read that it isn’t a good idea, but it might have only applied to a different type of plant.

    This can be both harmful and beneficial. It helps to prevent certain pests from breeding, mainly fungus gnats, but it can make it difficult for the soil underneath to dry out. As long as you make sure the soil can still dry out, there shouldn't be an issue with having rocks :)

    I have tried it myself on all the house plants but ditched the idea a couple weeks later. it made the soil retain too much moisture. I read more and more about how it wasn't necessarily a good thing and it would require more advanced care.

      Perhaps I will just do a decorative border! Maybe that will be a good compromise
