anyone have plant set ups in north facing windows? mine are north east and I’m looking for inspo 🥹

    I was just wondering the same thing. I’m moving to a house with only north and south facing windows and I’m struggling to imagine my plants thriving

      right! i have a grow light over some plants right now because the spot is far from the south west window

    Yes! North-ish facing semi-basement here. Grow lights have helped me, but most of my plants are in the windowsill. Thankfully I have very wide window ledges! Only a few plants are on my plant shelf which has a bright dedicated grow light.

    It’s been 7 months and I haven’t lost any yet! Maybe they’re not 100% happy but this is temporary for me. Also, I’ve had some bloom in that time!

    I have South and West facing windows which get really hot in the summer since we live in a very dry area. Most of my plants can’t tolerate that much sun. I’m considering a shade that will cut down the sunlight by certain percentages. This way I can put most of my plants in either window, and not be afraid of sunburn. I have asked Planta members to recommend their favorite sunscreens, since I’ve seen a few of them in pictures. So far I haven’t heard from anybody. I have called a window company that has very inexpensive shades. I am hoping he’ll come through with a price I can afford. But it’s not a bad idea for anybody with windows that might fry their plants.

      I wonder if you can get those window stickers that look like stained glass to filter the light out

      Great suggestion… I was thinking about that myself! It might be just enough to cut the hot afternoon sun it… TXS!

    My windows are all northwest (more north in the winter with some added west as we hit summer months) and lots of things do well. I use grow lights for those with higher light demands (succulents, some alocasia, albo variegation) but I’ve still had success with keeping many near the window. Some that do very well are most strings of things, pothos, Scindapsus, certain alocasia (micholitziana does really well), many begonias, some anthurium, and calathea. Philodendron and monstera will usually survive and even grow just fine but size up less/more slowly. Honestly most things will be slower and more challenging vs in a south or fully west-facing window but you can still have very happy plants and then supplement lighting however much makes sense for you.

    Basement with one NE window and one SE. Snake plant, corn plant (dracaena), fernwood sansevieria, and whale fin sansevieria have all done well here. I have had to snooze watering on the dracaena. Fernwood is over 8 feet from window and is tolerating well. Whale fin is small and tends to get moved around to wherever I am working … Happy planting!

      I know, right? Researching low light tolerant plants paid off. The planta app is helpful; I would be overwatering if I did not have it as a guide. Thank you, I tell them how pretty they are regularly!
