Can people share pictures of their set up for where/how they replant and do maintenance? Right now I’ve got a bucket of dirt in my laundry room and make a mess in my kitchen whenever something needs a replant. Suggestions on how to be as tidy as possible while playing with the dirt inside?
Have you got a potting mat? I find that keeps things tidier but when I’m emptying soil, I do that bit first into the garden. I tend not to reuse soil any more personally and if not dumping into the garden, I have a big bin ready next to me with double bagged garbage bags and dump into that. The potting mat is on the table. Next to that is a big tub where I mix my substrate first and then do the actual potting on the potting mat to avoid bits going everywhere. Sorry no photos but I hope I that description makes sense!

좋아요 1개I use a plastic drawer to dump soil in while I'm reporting. Keeps the mess to a minimum (which is still messy cause that's my nature 😆). You could also do maintenance outside or use a towel/tablecloth/garbage bags underneath. At least that's my preferred method.

My soil mix is kept in a plastic tote with a cover, and I flip the cover over next to the tote to use as a potting mat while repotting. I use a “liner” of scrap paper or cardboard on it to remove the old soil then throw the whole thing in the compost bin before putting the plant in the new soil. Then I can shake the soil that misses the pot back into the tote before re-covering it.

I use disposable aluminum food service trays to catch most of the mess. I don’t care about the carpeting getting stained. I vacuum after every use. Rest of house stays neat and clean.

I don’t have an outside space that is easily accessible so for any small plants I throw down an old towel and do my work over a plastic shoe mat that sits on the towel (one we use especially when our shoes are snowy). For anything excessive I’ll take them outside, but that can only be certain months of the year.

lol theres not really a clean way to play with dirt! I’m so messy and unorganized so that’s probably why I love plants lol
