What I hate the most about being a plant parent is QUARANTINE TIME. My dining room is my quarantine space for newbies but waiting two weeks before I can place and love on my babies sucks. 😢 Do you have a dedicated quarantine space? Do you wait a full 2-4 weeks before putting newbies around your OGs? 😫 Good news: about 6 babies graduate from quarantine tomorrow 🎓🎉
My quarantine window is shorter, but it has come back to bite me a few times lately! Keep doing what you’re doing!

We’re supposed to quarantine new plants? Is it to make sure they don’t have insects? New plant mom here, please share the wisdom. 😁
1 Like Hi New Plant Mom!! Yes, if you already have plants that have been in your space for weeks or months, new plants from the nursery can come with pests. So quarantine gives you time to examine the leaves and soil and treat for pest in a “contained” area before putting new plants next to older plants. I normally use a flashlight to look at the leaves, especially under them, and the soil. Then I pray the leaves down with water. Water the plant if needed and then I go in with a neem spray

Thanks for sharing your insights. I didn't realize I needed to quarantine my plants. Thankfully, most of my plants are new to my home, so they’re all “quarantining” of sorts.

Eh, usually I just spray with 70% alcohol and call it good! 😂😂 I do look at the plant pretty good before bringing it home. In my experience plant shops usually take better care but places like Home Depot or Walmart well that’s different. I guess I just access what I’ll do when I see it?
1 Like I agree. I know the recommendation is 2-4 weeks but realistically if after examination, water spraying, wiping and observation for a week or so I’m good.

I hear that I should, but I've never quarantined. Been a plant parent for decades. I'm too excited to place my plants as Sim as I get home.
