Hello everybody! I am looking for new plants to add to my set up and I would love suggestions. I am quite picky and unfortunately I am down on my luck finding plants that fit my preference. I am unwilling to purchase plants that prone to pests as well as plants that are expensive. I would enjoy dark, large leaves and as well as having an other worldly appearance. I do not like the look of fenestration on anything other than a fern unfortunately. I would adore philodendron, tradescantia, and fern recommendations. Thank you for both your time and consideration!

    I love philodendrons this is my Burle Marx, Florida ghost and paraiso verde. I’ve had them for years and never had a problem with pests on them

    Based on your preferences, I’d recommend a Philodendron micans, Alocasia Regal Shield, or a Raven ZZ. Alocasias definitely have a bit of a drama-queen reputation—and that part is true—but I’ve personally been lucky and haven’t dealt with pest issues on mine or my other plants. Micans and ZZs, on the other hand, are both very forgiving and easygoing options.

    And my other recommendations that I think fit the otherworldly appearance part would be purple oxalis, polka dot begonia and caladium lindenii! Also have never had pests with these guys

      Begonias are such a good call! There are so many types and they absolutely look otherworldly.

    Philodendron black cardinal and red Congo, ficus burgundy and asparagus fern would be my recommendation

    If you are looking for good deals on plants and don’t have a local nursery you can go to your local nursery can try Palmstreet, I have bought quite a few very hard to find plants for my area there and for great prices

    I think anthuriums generally have a reputation for attracting pests, but I'm going to recommend anthurium Big Bill. It does not have a velvet leaf texture, and seems sturdy by comparison to other anthuriums. I got one for $16, and while it's small now, they do live up to their name-- and I definitely think they're otherworldly. This little guy absolutely seems alien to me. He's small now, but by this time next year his leaves will hang down several feet.

    There are so many philos that would fit your requirements! They are almost all so forgiving and easy going. If you like large dark leaves, I would recommend campii, or joepii. The splendid is gorgeous fast growing and easy going. Depends on if you want to have a vining or self heading. I would love to see what you finally choose!

      If you want to buy babies instead of the expensive mature plants, I recommend The Green Escape, or Orange Lake nursery.
