Wasn’t expecting a $11.99 PPP at Trader Joe’s this week, totally made my day! They’ve been such a bucket list plant for me and the one I snagged is super healthy plus has some stunning colors. All my rescues from grocery stores get their soil changed out as well as a hose-down with warm water and a good drenching with 70% isopropyl alcohol (you do have to wait for it to dry before setting out under the sun or it can burn the leaves). I would quarantine them for about a week but usually I don’t have the space.

My roommate’s Zz plant is getting healthy again! This plant has been loosing shoots left and right, but since I took over the care it’s been getting better! Words cannot express my excitement to see new shoots growing!

My newest leaf on my Philodendren florida was a bit smaller than the previous leaves so I suspected it was root-bound. I pulled it out and indeed it was. I loosened up a bunch of the roots and repotted with chunky mix. I left almost all of the original soil, because I put it in a bit of an oversized pot. I will focus watering more towards the center where the denser soil is and the outer perimeter of chunky soil, which will still get some water, can help wick any excess water away (this is an experiment btw). With the excess size of the pot, if I water the whole pot normally, I risk over watering. I have my finger and a water gauge stick to help get it right.

My beautiful new beauty!

A couple pics of some new spots (there is “Porch” and there is “Deck,” but I’m unsure which is which after clearing some spots of fake ivy to “dapple sun.) Note my little Gymnocalycium getting a nice tan under that netting; it had a squiggly bug running up the spine last month and almost went in the trash. I have had some casualties…

Finally got my hands on this beauty from my local Walmart for $40! All of them had some webs at the base of the plants so I got her out of her soil, showered her down and treated with neem oil. Into quarantine she goes but I can’t stop staring 😍🪴

I just got a grow light to help with the damp, dreary winter in the mountains! After battling mealybugs and scale, I think my babes are finally at a healthy place— with exception to my pink caladium who I haven’t quite figured out how to please. Her roots are gorgeous tho! My croton was so weepy, but after a heady repot and a shower, the mealybugs are gone and she’s perked right up! Happy grow season y’all!
