Thought I’d share the latest blooms from my Nematanthus “Shady Lady Mae”. For anyone looking for a low-maintenance plant that’s pet-friendly and has beautiful flowers, this is Mei. I keep her in Espoma’s Organic Cactus and Succulent Mix, let her completely dry out between waterings, and add some Osmocote Slow-Release Fertilizer Pellets whenever I repot her. She has rich dark green leaves with red-violet undersides, and bright red striped and stippled on her yellow flowers. This variety can be hard to find in my neck of the woods, but if you ever spot one, I highly recommend this variety of goldfish plant, as well as the ‘Tropicana’ cultivar that I’ve been hunting for. Their lipstick plant cousins (Aeschynanthus) are also gorgeous and just as surprisingly low-maintenance for a flowering plant. Please feel free to turn this into a thread to share any of your goldfish and lipstick plants. I’d love to see more of them here 😊

I left my plants near a large window over Christmas whilst on holiday, and a couple were unrecoverable :( Now, I’ve moved them all in to the room and invested in a set of grow light bars. Super excited to see if they thrive, and happy with the aesthetic too (the pictures don’t do them justice!).

We’re about fortnight in, the Claria grow light has arrived I bought a bundle so I’ve another but want to wait until the mrs gets home before putting more up 🤣 Does anyone have suggestions or should I give it a week before anymore movement. I’m going to setup a insta page to track progress but unsure if it’s allowed to share but sharing some of the snaps I’ve taken recently

Just a general question and poll, if your humidity level sits at 50% and above do you still mist regularly or just when leaves are unfurling?

A few years ago my daughter gave me this plant because she wasn’t giving it the proper care and it was looking pretty bad. It was in a very small plastic planter. It had two leaf stems with what was left of the leaves. She had trimmed off the dried parts. The leaves were probably about two inches long. Well yesterday, I had to repot it again because it has been doing so well. It was extremely root bound and I’m sure I did some damage. It’s still looking a little droopy but seems to be doing ok. I had a few plants at the time. But that’s when I started getting serious. Now I’m at 200, which has to come down. Probably about 50 tropicals and the rest succulents. I have learned so much in that time. Made many mistakes but I certainly am enjoying tending these beauties every day.
