I am pleased to introduce two of my favorite plants!. These are syngonium podophyllum Albo variegatum, ‘Marble,’ one of the most underrated arrowheads out there because you have to see it up close to understand why “stunning” is the best description for this variety. I bought the larger one in the 3.5” pot about 5 months ago to add to my syngonium collection and it was on sale online at Steve’s Leaves. I liked it so much that I bought a second smaller one a month later online at Gabriella Plants. I was slow to repot because both plants are flourishing in the pudding cup nursery pots! So, why mess with it? These are great because they haven’t shown brown tips and no yellowing in the months I have had them. The larger one has several vines and regularly put out new leaves that are unique. It’s like the plant is trying to come up with as many color and pattern mutations as it can think up. So, it’s a delight to see what will unfurl. The solid white half moon sections are a crisp clean white that shows well next to the variegated and emerald green areas. It’s nicknamed Syngonium White Knight Albo for a reason! There are gray olive colors blended with in as well. You just have to see it!

This is my favorite spot with plants. The jade is a clone if you want to call it that. It came from one I’ve had for 27 yrs. I want it to be more of a tree so I’m going to cut some of the longer ones to hopefully make it more bushy. The violets the same. The orchid is young a gift of 3 yrs. Then the others something new I’ve never tried

Let me tell you about the journey I’ve had with this Anthurium Besseae I brought home from a plant sale at the local botanical garden. Its old leaves were not handling the acclimation well and started slowly crisping over the course of a couple months. Meanwhile it gave me an inflorescence, an extremely damaged leaf (you can see it in the background), and then another inflorescence. Things were not looking good. I upped the humidity to 80% and then like magic this gorgeous leaf bigger than my head appeared. She’s still growing and hardening off. Persistence is key in finding the ideal growing conditions, my friends! What do you think of her?

I work landscaping and this variety of stonecrop started out as a cutting from a client. It’s grown to fit this pot really well and even bloomed today!

My baby colocasia is suddenly variegated!! What does this mean? The mother plant was outdoors and solid & this guy was green when I dug him up, now he’s potted and under dappled light in the window.

Okay, so I got a little over-exuberant with my shaping and pruning of my Ming Aralia. But I have every confidence that my first attempt at a Bonsai composition will eventually be gorgeous in about ten years. Lots of work to do still. This shaping is the result of months of shaping with wire that has been removed. The twine will be removed in a few months once the branches have firmly grown into the configuration I’ve placed them in. It has 11 branches signifying longevity which it will need in order to become the tree in my vision. Next will be trimming the roots and securing it in a proper Bonsai pot. To be completely transparent, I know nothing about Bonsai and I started this project with nothing but a little info I got on YouTube. I followed no ancient Bonsai rules by choice. I’m not even sure one could even call this a true Bonsai. Probably not. So please do not ask me any questions about doing this. I am not the right person to advise anyone on how to Bonsai. I don’t even know for sure that I haven’t already killed my formerly gorgeous Ming. It is still growing though, so that’s promising. 😬

I will be redoing this space until something in my head sees a balance. Unfortunately, I’m convinced this black equipment rack is my savior. Doubly unfortunate is how many times I have to take it apart for a simple tweak, which I probably decided on last moment after a ray of sun hit in one spot. The impetus for the in-flux setup was noting the sun hits pretty hard in a spot where my big light blocks it. Now, right side will get several hours of real stuff. Some advice is to turn around and see how many plants are behind you on the counter before making any decisions ha. I had everything set up and remembered my two biggest were still in the sink. Crap. This was also a practice run to get all plants in the house, as brutal heat turned into afternoon torrential rain. When did Utah join the Caribbean islands? Advice on a curtain to toss over this so I don’t think about it for a while?
