I got lucky and bought this plant for the flower buds. I found out later it was red turmeric (curcuma). Itâs almost carefree. The flowers are long lasting. It goes dormant when the temperature drops, losing all of the leaves. I take the pot inside to avoid freezing weather. The plant revives in spring. It grows several feet when planted in the ground. All of it is used in cooking and for medicinal purposes. Iâve successfully grown the yellow variety sold in grocery stores.

So when I got this little guy, the nursery folks wished me luck and said he was difficult! Well, looks like he is doing well! I am currently trying to make him attach to the wood on the back! The picture with the other plants (in the cart) is where I place them when I first get them to make sure they acclimate to the new place and to keep them away from the rest in case they come with any pests or issues. It's a little quarantine cart.
