Thought I’d show off a lesser-known plant for anyone looking for a more unique addition to their collection. This is Liam, my Silver Dollar Vine, or String of Coins (not to be confused with the dischidia string of nickels, which is similar in appearance). Mine is technically an amalgamation of a bunch of separate little Xerosicyos that were $3 each as terrarium starters at The Rhoads Garden. I’m really happy with how it turned out, and I attached a photo of what it should look like over time when it begins to mature into a trailing plant. If anyone else has one of these plants, please feel free to turn this into a thread to share yours, cause I have yet to see one of these in any posts yet, but would love to see one that’s older than mine 😊

I completely agree! I was actually looking for the string of nickels when I spotted it (dischidia nummularia), but they tend to be much pricier and hard to find where I live, so I was very happy to find something very similar to it. 😊

How often do you water yours? Mine is looking a bit sad

I wait about 18 days in the winter then gradually move it up to 15 days in the spring and summer in terms of watering. Mine’s been very low-maintenance since I removed the soil it was originally in and replaced it with Espoma’s Cactus and Succulent mix, so it seems to enjoy being treated like a succulent.

Your plant looks great Adrian! I’m watering mine every 21 days, but it could change to less often with the spring rain.

Thanks, the flowers are new to me too! They’re tiny. I read that you can train it to grow more like a vine if you give it a support to start hanging on to

That’s what I’m going to do with mine.

I’ve got one that I had to cut off the ends of all of its branches. It was more of a cut back rather than a cut off. It was tangled in a cord of my antenna cord, and another cord plus another plant. Anytime I moved anything, it tipped over and at one time it was dangling in mid air. It’s started growing. And I need to get the trellis for it that I bought. It can twirl around that all it wants. Continue to monitor.
