I cut these potatoes a month ago and one doesn't have roots but it has buds. The other one is just roots. Can someone tell me why. I've never grown sweet potatoes before.

It grows faster (4 weeks) if the potato is not cut in half and the entire potato is planted in water or soil. It also needs warmth and full sun or a grow light equivalent. I placed into pot a sweet potato that had overgrown in my pantry. It got 8 hours of direct sunlight (95°-100°F) each day. It produced one little potato. Ideally, the potato slips (baby plants) should be removed and planted to produce a lot more potatoes in about 4 - 5 months.
