I moved this Frydek to “Sydney the Plant Guy’s” no drainage/leca/moss set up in April/May (?). I’d tried transitioning to just straight pon last fall and she didn’t take well to it. First pic is in early July. Second pic today! 😍. She’s just taken OFF!!! I probably should have put her up a wee bit higher in the pot when I transitioned her. There are at least two plants in here now. The smaller one is blocked by the bigger one. She gets showered/rinsed everytime I top off the nutrient solution to stave off spider mites. #iykyk. 1/2 strength GT Foliage Focus at every watering. Gets the PRIME spot directly under a Soltech grow light.

    Wow, it’s beautiful! I just bought one of these a couple of weeks ago at Costco and loved the variegation. I just repotted it in same pot but my own chunky soil. I hope it does well. But happy to get more detailed tips from you

      If you have other alocasia you should be fine. If you don’t, they can be VERY finicky. Throw fits when you bring them home, lose leaves if you breathe wrong near them, and they are spider mite attractors! So rinse the leaves top and bottom at least monthly to keep them away.

    I have an Alocasia platinum and it’s a bit iffy on what it wants to do. They all have browning tips and I’m still waiting at least one new leaf to spring forth. So crossing fingers that both the Frydek and Platinum will do well đŸ€ž

    Will you share what medium you are talking about that you put her in? My Frydek drops a leaf everyone it pushes a new one. đŸ€Ș Would love to try something new.

      You should watch Sydney the Plant Guy on YouTube. He has a video that shows the entire transition - from OH MY GOD IS IT GONNA DIE???? to OH WOW, look how beautiful it is!!!!

    Hi, ty for this post. I transitioned mine to LECA fairly recently. While her leaves are getting larger, she isn’t putting out as many variegated leaves. And they are not as colorful as they were. The ones that I see most growth in are the green leaves. How many fc does yours get? How far away from your Soltec light is she? I recently bought a Soltech light. She is in my humidity tent but I might consider moving her to be under the Soltec. Any advice would be welcomed.

      Here’s the set up. (Click on the picture so you can see the light.) FC is about 950. Did you buy an Aspect? What I’ve learned is that almost ALL of their other lights are meant for medium to low light plants. Variegated plants need more light than their non-variegated counterparts. That’s why all of these varigated plants are shoved up under this light đŸ€Ł

      Thank you, I love your set up! I think it all depends on how far away from the plant the light is situated. 950 FC Is a good amount of light. It’s too much for some. Happy growing!

      Aspect? No I have Soltec Vitagrow and T5’s,T10’s. I have a few miscellaneous Sansi lights. Where I live, and because I’m surrounded by close trees, I have to have lights.
