Make sure you bottom water!
3件のいいねI wouldn’t even say bottom watering is a necessity. You just have to keep their natural growth environment into consideration. Give it water when it’s completely dry (they grow in Africa) and give it lots of light. They do not like light from the bottom of their leaves ( this will cause them to burn from beneath) their leaves like to turn towards the light a lot so I recommend rotating. Besides that just repot when it basically looks like a head of lettuce sitting on a tiny pot. Hope this helps 😊
2件のいいねA head of lettuce on a tiny pot, haha! 😆 One of mine is trending lettuce right now, you inspired me to repot today. I also have a 20 yo that I let sprawl across a large terra cotta pot and restructure/divide/repot every few years. I like to imagine it growing freely across the rocky slopes of Tanzanian rainforest rather than in my suburban bay window in Southern Oregon 🫠
0件のいいねI second Kyle’s tip to bottom-water. They do not like getting their leaves wet and it helps lower the risk of overwatering and pests in the long run. If you’re new to bottom-watering, look up “how to bottom-water a plant” on YouTube. The flowers will eventually shrivel and die, and I snip them off at the top of the stem when they do. New ones will come back soon. Mine’s enjoyed getting at least 2-4 hours of sunlight daily in a north-facing window, but I moved it under grow lights in the winter because they do not enjoy the cold. They can be more finicky in terms of repotting. I gently downsize the pot after it’s done blooming and prune any old or dying leaves off to give it time to recharge in the off season. They tend to bloom every other season; at least twice a year. I use Espoma’s African Violet Mix for them in terms of repotting, and do recommend using an African Violet specific soil mix for it if you wanna keep it around for years to come.
