Other than a few in my bedroom window, here’s the latest…scene? It’s more scene than garden. My quest of finding the most efficient way to get enough-but-not-too-much direct sun continues. I still barely understand how a greenhouse works, but my window panes supposedly do something with light energy etc etc. I’m at 127 plants… Go back in time even five years and tell me that number ha. It doesn’t seem correct. Ignore the placeholder yellow twine, which looks like caution tape ha.

What do you pot your cactus up in? I’m having trouble with root rot in my cacti soil and I don’t overwater them… some are even dry rot. Can’t find a happy medium. I want to put them in lechuza pon but the cuttings rot even after callous… so I need to get the cuttings to grow water roots. How do you do this? I have mine sitting in a cup of water (just the bottom is touching the water) but it’s touching enough to scare me about the cactus going mushy. I’ve never propagated a cactus cutting in water lol

I haven’t focused too much on propagating to know anything beyond cut, let callous a few days, put it in a pot with moist soil that’s a mix of pumice and whatever bag of commercial cact and suc soil is around (nothing too fancy). But I also try out diff types of sand and pebbles just because. Doing water roots is beyond me, though, as it seems like a lot of work. Which cactus are we talking?

Ps Any propagations I’ve done and put effort into were, for example, this rootless Madagascar Palm branch. It sat for a few days after cutting and I built a little base out of broken terracotta pots to hold it in place. I know I wasn’t great about keeping the soil moist at that time, but this particular plant is a survivor with “amazing regeneration capabilities.” I think my point is I’m in no position to offer advice on propagation other than know your plant?
