What is she!?
0 gillningarSheās a sedum morganianum. A lovely one, too š„° Mine was one of my first houseplants and sheās still one of my favorites. They are not fun to repot and difficult to move or set anywhere new for watering or setting it on a shelf without losing some leaves, but theyāre thankfully very easy to propagate whenever they do (and will) lose a leaf or two. If you ever lose a lot of leaves on one branch, I highly recommend snipping it and removing some more to even it out, then stick the stem right into the soil with the rest of the plant, then using any beans it lost/you removed to cover any exposed soil up top š
2 gillningarThanks so much for the information. Any tips for watering and lighting.
1 gillaSure! They love bright light, so any windowsills that get at least 6-8 hours of sunlight are perfect for it. I use a wooden/bamboo/barbecue skewer to test if the soilās dry enough to water. Mine takes about 18-25 days depending on the season, but given how full yours is, Iād guess itās closer to 20-25. If the leaves start to shrivel itās thirsty. If you use a skewer and stick it all the way into the soil, and itās completely dry, with nothing sticking to it when you take it out, it should be safe to water. If a lot of soil sticks to it, wait 2 days before testing it again. The āfilmā on the leaves is its natural sunscreen, so donāt water right on the leaves or touch the leaves, or youāll risk removing the film and the leaves burning when returned to its window. I bottom-water mine, which means I stick the pot (carefully) into a shallow Tupperware container and fill the container with water so the plant can suck the water up from the drainage holes. Add more if itās really thirsty and sucks all the water up within a minute, and if it takes longer the second time you add water, leave it be for a bit to slowly absorb whatever else it wants. Leave it in the water for 20-30 minutes, then take it out and let it drain over a cup/bowl/saucer. It keeps the leaves dry, lowers the risk of overwatering and root rot, and keeps the top soil dry so itās less likely of attracting pests. If youāre new to bottom-watering, thereās tons of videos on YouTube if you look up āhow to bottom-water a plantā. Hope this helps š
1 gillaIs it considered a succulent, like Jade?
0 gillningarYes, it is a succulent. It has the protective āfilmā common with many succulents; like echeverias, for example.
1 gillaThe tag said burros tail.
1 gillaThere are common names and scientific names, thatās probably whatās going onā¦
0 gillningarYup! Burroās tail is the common name used for sedum burrito and sedum morganianum. The difference between the two is the shape of the leaves, or ābeansā š« , as some like to call their leaves. Morganianums are pointier and have slightly longer leaves; and the burritos are shorter and more ābeanā shaped.
