My hand is where I chopped this FLF ‘Bambino’ in November! He’s doubled in size since! Should I chop again to try to get branches or just be content with the long stick tree?

This is the original prop. It was only one leaf with no roots for like 3 months. Then it suddenly popped out a bunch and started pushing out a new leaf. It gave me another after I potted it in soil 😍 IDK what I’m going to do with it but I don’t have the heart to give it away yet - probably one of the reasons I haven’t chopped the OG again 🤔

I always thought chopping an FLF would cause it to branch at the top/apical bud. Is that not always the case?

That’s what I thought too buuuuut it didn’t work for me 🤷‍♀️ I read that sometimes they just don’t branch after a chop

I saw a video on “notching” the stem. I tried it last year but only did half the steps (you’re supposed to cover the top of the plant in a dark sheet/bag to encourage it to branch from the notch - I didn’t). But I noticed last week that now that the weather/light is better, my FLF has started growing branches out of 2 of the notches I made last year! So I can confirm it works. Maybe look up videos on YT to see if you find more info about it.

Oh! That’s good to know! Did you have to use keiki paste too? I was reading that that could be an option as well. It’s very interesting to hear about the dark top. I haven’t heard of that before. I’ll definitely look up some videos. Thanks!

I’m not sure if they did in the video, but I definitely didn’t use any. Also just fyi when the notches on mine started branching, it stopped growing new leaves at the top. I guess it needs a lot of energy to branch.
