We’re finally blooming 😍🌸. This my first season with flowers and I am so excited to see them all. Plant is a Brugmansia (Angel’s Trumpet)

They produce beautiful flowers. I had one in my yard that produced pink flowers before a long freeze killed it. Be careful handing them. Every part of it is very toxic especially the seeds and flowers. The poison causes hallucinations, pupil dilation, blurry vision, skin irritation, racing heart, muscle weakness and elevated temperatures. It’s especially impactful in children and pets who eat the seeds and flowers. There are no antidotes but the effects eventually wear off. I picked up every dropped leaf because of my dog. I wore disposable gloves.
0 LikesThank you! I know how poisonous they are, I think it adds to their beauty somewhat, don’t you? I keep mine outdoors all summer and then it goes dormant in a closet in the winter, just to be certain it doesn’t get nibbled by my kitties! 🐱
1 LikeI had no idea about it being so poisonous. Luckily my dog hasn’t messed with this one but I will be more cautious with it and my dog from now on.
1 LikeMy two dogs tasted every plant when they were puppies. The leaves on this type of plant were too high to reach. They found lots of poisonous oleander leaves on the ground. I had three old oleander shrubs all 12 ft wide. Had to get professionals to remove and grind the stump, then, scoop up the poisonous sawdust! Those dogs cost me a small fortune. 😂
1 LikeMy neighbor had an oleander and I had no idea how poisonous that one was either until I looked it up to see what the tree was cause it was just so gorgeous! Every time I went to my backyard I would say I felt like I was in Hawaii just cause of that tree. it was just so beautiful! She actually just had it chopped down not to long ago after the last hurricane messed it up pretty bad. I was sad to see it go but I suppose it’s a good thing being my dogs are always out there. I usually just made sure to rake up the leaves when they would fall in my yard but my dogs luckily leave plants alone. They are both full grown though. Puppies are a different story! Yours is adorable.
