My Freckles orchid, I got her to flower and opening up 😍😍😍 so happy! While I'm still waiting for her sister Peaches to bloom for me as well. Still no sign though. Got them both last December. Not a healthy plant as usual being from the grocery store, but I was able to revive them both from water culture, and cutting out their flower stalk... And success! Both came back to life.

I've been considering trying the whole water culture thing with my orchids. This may sound like a silly question, but is that how you do it? With the roots just above the water? Or are they normally completely submersed in the water? Thank you in advance for your advice.

Now here, you see that there are new roots coming out. I cut the old bottom stem up to where the new roots are. Back then, I was experimenting on how I was going to do it, partly followed the "water culture rule". Later on, I just did my own thing, by having them in water full time, giving them 1 or 2 days of how it's shown in the picture. I noticed that new roots continued to grow abundantly and new leaf coming out, so I must be doing it right, lol

2-3 weeks ago, I added pebbles for "esthetic" look, but 2 days ago, i noticed that some of the bottom roots started to get mushy. Hence, picture shown, I'm giving them a break from full water. Depending on the status of the leaves, I will be submerging them again. FYI, everyday, I check on their progress, a lot of work but in the end, they will reward you 😊. Hope these helps! Goodluck!

From nursery substrate to water, I had them submerged to water full time, untill original roots rotted.

How do you keep it from being moldy?

So far I haven't encountered that? I keep them clean by changing water every 2 weeks, maybe that's why? (Excuse background mess, we're in the process of moving things around, lol 😂)
