They loveeeeeeee bright indirect light, high humidity and to completely dry out between waterings!! Your variegation should start to come back once the health improves. I would definitely do a repot to refresh the soil and get a look at it roots. It may have some root rot

Those are extremely insect prone. Make sure you treat the soil! I got two clearance from the orange aprons, and they died of infestations. After I was already fighting them, my sister, the more experienced plant mother, told me they are insect prone. They are gorgeous, though!

If my dirt has diatomaceous earth mixed in will that be good? I’m still a bit of a newbie myself 😩

My mom has this plant, and gave me a cutting. She keeps hers in a darkish spot, but I put mine in a window and it grows like CRAZY, my fastest growing plant by far. Much faster than hers. It did get some sort of sticky infestation that didn't spread to other plants. Systemic insecticide took care of it, and putting the entire plant in the shower

make sure to use distilled water, and don’t let the soil dry out in between watering. it prefers to stay moist. if you’re using too hard of water, you’ll notice browning and yellowing on the edges of the leaves.

Yes, I shower it with the pot. I have a hose shower head which really helps to get it from every angle. Ah, and just a few days ago I noticed the plant sprouting from a hole on the bottom edge of the pot... Unstoppable plant

I would chop any damaged leaves to help new growth
