Just got this baby variegated alocasia off of Facebook marketplace! It is in a basic planter which I will switch when it gets adjusted to its new home! Please give any tips as I’m not that great with alocasias (yes I have good humidity and a humidity dome for her)

I’ve been potting my alocasia in a mix of “tropic jungle potting soil”, perlite, and rainbow pumice. Just found that my Polly loves it in this soil. I base my watering off the moisture visible through these clear pots and the weight of the whole thing. Humidifier keeps the leaves from getting any more crispy than the store had them already. They sit a little too close to light but it hasn’t seemed to bother them. I haven’t had these for longer than a month and a half or so though so my tips are still beginner level. I just got some glass vases, leca, and more sphagnum as I constantly see positive feedback on root development doing that method.

좋아요 1개 Would you say the mix u make myself with perlite , tropical soil, lava rock, orchid bark, worm castings , and enrichment powder will work (or should I leave out the enrichment powder for now
0개 좋아요 I’m not sure what enrichment powder is, unless that’s just another term for vermiculite. I haven’t used vermiculite for anything yet, I just bought my first bag and have plans to go to a nursery with friends tomorrow so it might get used. Your mix sounds good to me though, I’d recommend skipping the orchid bark unless it’s smaller chunks just because you don’t want too large of air pockets as that typically creates pockets of bacteria. When I repotted mine I washed most of the old soil off because it was some coco coir and loamy earth and I’m allergic to coconut; itchy fingers every time I check the soil sounds awful. Worm castings are a great addition to any soil mix as it’s just great for soil health.
