Peperomia appreciation post! 🥰 They’ve become a quick favorite for me. Feel free to turn this into a thread to share all your peperomias 🌱 (For anyone wondering, in order they should be: peperomia obtusifolia with marble variegation, peperomia clusiifolia red margin, watermelon peperomia, and variegated peperomia obtusifolia “sweet and sour”)

Is this for your gecko’s enclosure, or a separate one for other plants?

Well, peperomia are thankfully non-toxic, and epiphytic, so they don’t necessarily need soil, but my concern would be that they have more of a humidity need than the other succulents or plants for an arid environment your gecko needs. They’re also lower light plants that can burn or lighten their leaves under bright light. Would you happen to know which type of peperomia you have? Some have more of a humidity need than others

it's just green. I think that's it, the light burnt it's leaves x.x they turned yellow before falling off, now it's got one lonely leaf left. dang, was hoping peps would be good!

Peperomia are really great, but typically not meant for arid environments like that you’re working on for your leopard gecko. They’re originally from the rainforests of Central and South America. If you wanna try again with one, I’d definitely suggest getting one of the obtusifolia variety, as they’re extra hardy and have more succulent-like leaves. You could try repotting it with a mixture of cactus and succulent and all-purpose potting mix if you still wanna save it 😢

I have one hanging on by a thread, but two other newer ones who seem to be thriving. Not giving up on these plants because I really like them and want to get additional varieties. I shall see what happens, because my oldest one is on life support, but seems to be holding on still! 😆

I absolutely adore obtusifolias! I have the basic variegated variety and a sweet and sour, but the marble and the red margin ones are on my wish list. Your babies are gorgeous btw!

Oh, yours are both beautiful! 🥰 I highly recommend the marble varieties. They’re a definite new favorite of mine. I really love my sweet and sour one, though. She was my first pep, and she’s been growing like a weed since I got her back in May. Keep up the good work with yours 😉

Definitely looks to be of the obtusifolia/clusiifolia variety given the leaves. Does it still have roots? You could try propagating it in wet perlite or water if there’s still roots

yes it does! I made a post in rehab and whatever on here lol I did end up cutting it as it looked like it had roots in the middle and new growth on top. 🤷 we shall see.

I've had my peperomia in water for a few months now, just to propagate some roots. It stated to flower about a month ago, but then the other leaves dyed to get lighter green. I just repotted it on soil today (and chopped off the flower stem bc I read that might be sucking away energy). Any tips on how to get these leaves back to dark green again?

I’m sad to say that I have yet to find any leaves that get lighter and spent like that to go back to their dark green. No matter how much light. It’s a natural sign of aging when you see that on the lowest bottom leaves, though, and not inherently a fault in care. When mine get like that as they age, I gently twist them off and use them as leaf propagations. Your plant can still photosynthesize from it to grow new leaves, so you could either leave it on as it works to grow new roots and shoots, or snap it off to hopefully propagate and form its own plant along with your current cutting. You could stick the leaves in with your current cutting too. And just as a note, I don’t think the flower I see you’ve stuck in the soil will propagate, at least from my experience with peperomias. I have yet to see anyone try to do so nor succeed, so that’s just a heads up that you’re not doing anything wrong if it doesn’t develop roots. Hope this helps! 😊
