I moved recently and gave away most of my plants with the exception of one potted and the rest rooting in water. The dieffenbachia took a loooongg time to establish and i couldn’t let it go. Plus, it seems to love its new home. In the larger glass I have 3 different plants rooting in it; several pothos cuttings, 1 monstera adonsonii cutting and an agleonema stalk that lost all its leaves and looked as if it’d died. It’s doing better now with a couple of new shoots and a third shoot pushing out new growth that’s producing a new leaf. The other two vessels are just pothos. One of the shot glasses has a couple tradescantia zabrina cuttings. The other shares two different plants; one pothos cutting and 2 to 3 heart leaf philodendron cuttings. I don’t know when I’ll pot most of them up but I know I will eventually. Soon after, I’ll make new cuttings again once they’ve all matured. I can’t wait to see where it’ll go from here and what new plants I’ll add to my collection. ********** I do need advice for my dieffenbachia tho. They’re a fickle plant as is and it took me a while to figure out what it likes. It’s getting really top heavy and I’m scared to chop and prop for fear it’ll die. And then I’m also worried that it’ll fall over again and die. Any suggestions that would work best??

Hey! I know this is an old post, but I’ve had some experience with the falling dieffenbachia. Two years ago at about 3 feet tall, my two stems plopped to the ground right in front of me! I was like, “what do you want from me?!” So I cut them to about 6 inches and stuck the tops in the soil after a little dip in rooting hormone. They’re growing! New shoots came out of the stumps too. And last year in Costa Rica I saw them growing on the jungle floor in that decumbent position with the newest growth sticking straight up. Turns out it’s their natural growth pattern! I found an old scientific paper about dieffenbachia that talked about such matters, and at one point it indicated that they would grow straight up indefinitely with enough support, citing the example of one known dieffenbachia which had grown eight meters against a wall in a greenhouse. So we have some new goals now 😆 Here’s mine now with a simple pyramid support of three bamboo stakes lashed together.

** 3.16.26 Ive chopped it up since and just recently repotted the top after the pups from the mother plant withered. I’m just trying to stick to a schedule for watering until new roots start from its previous water roots beginning. So far, it’s doing well. I making sure to give it as much indirect sunlight as well. The coolest thing happened with the mother plant as well! As I was shaking excess dirt to check its root system, I saw a new pup coming up. It’s super new and still looks pale white so I kept some dirt to pot it up and see where it goes. I will do my best to update with pictures of its progress over the next couple of weeks/months.
