Hi everyone! I’m a new plant mama and I don’t know what I’m doing lol. I have a few questions about the plants I’ve purchased if you all can help me?! I recently bought two plants One being a Aglaonema and the other being a peperomia plant . For my “BeyBey” I was wondering if this windowsill from the picture would be suitable indirect sunlight for this plant? When I brought them home I watered them because they were kind of dry and I was told that they don’t need to be watered until the soil get dry again. My grandmas home ( where they are located ) can get quite humid in the summer time because she cannot tolerate cold air for long periods of time. Is that okay for this plant? I’ll be misting the leaves every other day or so. Lastly, with my peperomia plant, this little leaf came off and I was wondering if I could “propagate it?” If so, how can I do so? Thanks!

    That looks like a hope peperomia. You need a stem cutting. But hope peperomia don’t prop readily even with stem cutting. About misting. It’s pretty much useless. Besides if the home is humid, definitely don’t need to go to that trouble. As for lighting, it’s hard to tell from your pic. It depends which direction the window is facing also.

    I had that same kind of Aglaonema. When I bought it, it had three plants in it. Two died and when I was going to repot it this past weekend, I discovered there were barely any roots and none of them seemed viable. I bought it because it didn't require a lot of light. My living room doesn't get a lot of sunlight so he sat about a foot away from the window and got very indirect sunlight all day except in the afternoon. They're such pretty plants.

    Fellow aglaonema lover here! They will be totally fine in a more humid house. misting isn’t going to hurt it but it doesn’t raise the humidity for more than a few minutes, so it really doesnt benefit them much. I have aglaonemas in ambient house humidity that do just fine! Let them dry out between waterings, at least 80-90% dry. I like to really get a feel for the weight of the plant when it’s wet vs dry so I don’t have to stick my fingers in the soil. Using a wood chopstick is also a great way to check the moisture in the soil. I fertilize with a really diluted liquid fertilizer every time I water. The window should be fine, they can be leaners so just make sure to turn it so it stays straight. I keep mine under grow lights for 12-16 hrs and they do really well. They’re fine in lower lighting though! The colors may just be a little less bright. (I’m going to attach a picture of lighting changes)

      Thank you kindly for the helpful information! You rock! So far I’ve put her outside during the day and then I’ll bring her in during late afternoon or evening. Quick question, how would you suggest caring for them in the fall/winter months? I’m on the east coast.

      that sounds good to me! Just make sure it’s not in direct afternoon sun it may burn. You’ll likely have to water more frequently as well! In the winter I keep my house fairly warm so I don’t have an issue with the warmth. I haven’t had issues with the drier air either. if your windows are drafty I’d try to find another place for it and maybe get one of those clip on grow lights! I water a lot less frequently but still fertilize in the winter even though they say you don’t need it lol I appreciate that! They are such wonderful plants.

    Lots of growers like to start these in a soil that’s really not compatible in “normal”home conditions. After a week or two of acclimating I would repot it, if there’s any of the spongy soil mix you’ll want to remove it completely. I use a chunky soil mix (aroid mix).

      If they get a lot of light and fertilizer they bloom like crazy. I chop them before they bloom though bc I don’t think the flowers are that pretty 🤣 they also will put more energy into the leaves and growing bigger if you cut the blooms

    No I didn't. When I saw your pictures I realized just how bad off mine was it wasn't full and only had leaves growing from the top. I ended up getting rid of it. I may try again some day.
