I need to address something, please just scroll if you don’t agree! PLEASE STOP using AI for plant care! I have had to say this a ton in the past weeks and have seen others frequently mention it too. Ai can give misleading information especially on plant care (and trust me I have even experienced this before) I’m not saying you can’t use it at all for plants. All I’m saying that ai is LIKEY killing your plants if you follow the information it gives you. Please ask a real person in the real world or a trusted website about your plants before trusting what ai told you. Yes even humans can make mistakes I know shocking right? But it’s much better to ask someone who has had real experience with your issue than a literal robot. P.P.S I’m mostly talking about big companies like ChatGPT not planta ai (planta ai is like one of the only ais that actually works for plants (in my experience))

    Unless you have cited sources on the response from chatgpt, it pretty much talks nonsense based on assumptions, sometimes those assumptions aren’t wrong but those are typically already obvious to the average person anyways. ChatGPT is better for forcing it to do fast research or to just chat (hence the name), not for legitimate advice. I use the knowledge I have and will ask ChatGPT stuff and almost always catch something being blatantly wrong for no good reason, then I have to remind it to go search specific places on the internet

      Yes that’s an example of something that it can do well if you specifically type it out. Ive used that method before too

      I will warn people against "just chatting" with ai models. They have a tendency to over-affirm to the point that it messes with people's minds. Ai tends to push people towards narcissism, paranoia, self-isolation, weird metaphysics type spiritualism, and inappropriate roleplay. It often gets darker and suggests truly disturbing things over time (at least two people have died because it got dark). When it stays positive, it acts like a snake oil placebo and gives people false confidence, and convinces them to try things they're not capable of (like telling a frail elderly guy he can totally clear his gutters alone.) It's also killed at least one guy with incorrect dieting advice (he asked about increasing his salt intake and it suggested lethal levels of sodium). Please do not use AI for any kind of socializing, therapy, or diet/medical advice, ever. It's not safe for that

    If you’re looking for plant advice, here is great and also check your local plant societies. Google “(your city) plant society” then it can connect you to actual people and organizations near you with your climate and environmental experience with plants. A little bit off topic, but I don’t typically use AI. I used Google Gemini to help me find a family friendly coffee shop to introduce two friends at, it recommended two places and when I went there to scope it out, the first place had no parking, the second also had no parking and while it looked cute online, every single table was people on laptops with AirPods in their ears, not actually great for kids and community. This anecdotal experience is shared to highlight how AI doesn’t understand actual humans and human connections.

    Yes. I asked ChatGPT for some information recently and it gave me 3 different incorrect responses, each of which I explained were wrong, which it agreed with.

    When I found the CANE TOAD in my garden, I took pictures and asked ChatGPT to identify it. It identified it as a ground nesting bird, probably a ground nesting sparrow!

    Ai gives you /common/ results, not necessarily good results. Whatever you ask, it gives you the most average response. If the average thing is memes, it'll quote a meme. If the average is news articles, it'll quote those. It plagiarizes from reddit a lot. If you want actual plant care information, look for a club or society about that plant family, or search for "[plant name] culture sheet"
