Plant Newbie

👋 Plant Newbie here! I would like to show off my Ruby the Rubber Plant. She is one of my favorites in my collection! I originally purchased this plant for my husband’s office, but when he changed jobs it came back home. His new office isn’t conducive for a real plant, so it has stayed home. To my complete shock, she has grown from a 4 inch nursery pot to this stunning size under my care for the past several years. She is 1 of 2 plants that have inspired me and boosted my confidence to really engage in this plant journey! 🧐😀 Which plant of yours inspired you to engage in your plant journey??

Thank you! I don’t have a ZZ or bamboo plant… yet lol! I have two somewhat young Pothos plants that I recently combined together and I love the big bushy look! Can’t wait for it to spill over! 🪴

Mine was my Purple Heart, my mom gave it to me and it didn’t look good. I learned repotting, pruning, propagating from it. As well as how watering, lighting and soil can all factor into a plants health. The one plant turned into over 20 plants from propagation. I gave many of them to friends and family and I still propagate and grow it today.

I have always loved gardening of all types. I have not always lived somewhere that has good lighting so when I moved into my last house let’s say I was re-inspired by my Bird of Paradise and Fiddlehead Fig. I bought them knowing they could get quite large. My living room had 18 foot ceilings so I was unbothered by the adventure I was taking on.

😍 Love that you now have a conducive environment for your love of plants! I bet the plants are loving it as well! I don’t have a Bird of Paradise plant or fiddle fig tree, but they are very cute! My biggest and oldest (2 of 2 that inspired me) is my corn plant. I have had it since 2017. He took on some of the harshest conditions when I was completely new at taking care of plants, but he held it together! 🪴

I sold the Bird of Paradise, but I still have the Fiddlehead Fig. It’s now twice the size shown in the photo.

Mine was what was called a piggyback plant that I had in my teens. Long gone now.(50+ years later.) but I still remember her and how beautiful and bushy she was. I should get me another one, if I can find room. 😆
