Does anyone have an opinion on what fertilizer is best for a cat palm? I have all purpose miracle grow (24-8-16). I think it’s a synthetic fertilizer and I was told that palm’s don’t like synthetic fertilizer, and that I need a slow release one. Is this one OK to use you think, or do I have to go to the plant store and pick up a proper one? Google is less then helpful.

I’m not familiar with palms because I use to kill them and I haven’t tried again. In general I’d stay away from Miracle Grow. Go to your local plant shop which probably has something a little more conducive to houseplants

That’s probably a good idea. I do have to get some orchid fertilizer…

I use Jack’s Classic Palm Food 16-5-25 for my parlor palm (and banana plant), diluted to 1/4 tsp per gallon of water. I think they both like it? The parlor palm is a slow grower so it’s harder to tell, but it consistently pushes out new fronds and is quite bushy. The banana grew several feet in less than a year, but that could just be a banana thing. I think the Miracle Gro is fine to use, just be sure to really dilute it!

Ok thanks for the advice I’ll go look up the Jack’s classic palm food. I have like 6 new fronds but they’ve not opened and we’ve had them palms for about 6 months now. I know 1 isn’t getting enough light so she’s getting a grow light soon. Good to know that I should really really dilute the fertilizer, that’s super helpful!!! Thanks!
