I’m new to plants but we’re moving next week and I’m on a mission to make our new home a cozy urban jungle so here’s my starting collection! (Not pictured, my new rubber tree as well!) Any specific tips for a plant newbie?

I am a newbie myself but one thing that has been very helpful for me is this, that way you don’t over water them, you can check when they are too dry or too wet. I hope this helps

I got this stuff stuff to spray on the plants and it says it helps guard from bugs but I’ll definitely try your recommendation too! Definitely don’t want extra buggies in the house

Use planta as a reminder not a defacto timer for watering, always check the soil before watering. Get some BTI drops (mosquito dunks use this) to water your plants, or always bottom water to avoid fungus gnats. Also don’t repot until spring time unless really nessisary.

Don’t buy a bunch of plants. Stop at ten. Get them through winter. Get to know them and their care. Then gradually add more. Plants are amazing and beautiful. And if you don’t kill them, they GROW. You’ll be pursuing your passion and before you know it, you’ve run out of house, plant care time, and patience.

Join a fb plant group in your local area and ask questions. You can make planty friends, get plants from locals, and get help way faster than you would here.

I bought plants because they were pretty. Prayer plants for one 😩. WORST PLANT TO KEEP ALIVE! Learn about your plant to know how to care for it. Be proactive to avoid pests. The advice above is great. Study that. And pretty much let your plant dry out before watering. Hard to do as a newbie. We want to water! But creates almost every issue. Killing it, root rot, pests. Also, use clear pots! Have drainage holes. You can put the clear pots into a pretty pot. There you go, everything I did wrong 😂

Oh! And good chunky soil! Soil, perlite and orchid bark is a good way to go for most plants.

Lots of great advice, follow it. I think the ones you bought are a great start and some of the easier one to keep alive. Planta help me a lot and with that being said my biggest culprit was and still is me overwatering.

You’re going to kill plants, you’re going to get pests, you’re going to fall out of love with that plant you were OBSESSED with 6 months ago, and you’re going to learn you’re better at some groups of plants than others! It’s all part of the journey, welcome! 🤗
