Wanted to show a few of the plants I picked up from Ott’s Exotic Plants (not sponsored, lol. I wish 😂) They were all $7 each, and it’s always so much fun to go there. Highly recommend checking out if you live in the southeastern PA area. For anyone wondering what any of the plants are, they’re a Peperomia Obtusifolia with a marbled variegation, Peperomia Clusifolia ‘Red Margin’, and a Ficus Elastica Burgundy. Also for anyone looking for a Ficus Elastica, I was informed they’re getting another shipment of them this week 🫢

Thank you! I was so ridiculously excited when I spotted the marbled peperomia obtusifolia. I’ve been hunting for one for months 😮‍💨 ended up spending 20 minutes just trying to pick which one to take home 😂 and I like to mention Ott’s when I can because not only do they take great care of their plants, but it’s where my grandmother used to go to get her plants. She was magical when it came to gardening, and she’s who got me into houseplants, so it’s really nice to feel like she’s still with us a bit when we go there. It’s also ridiculously gorgeous there. I made another post yesterday where I posted some photos from there.

She grew this mammoth 60+ year old jade from one of their jades. They also have quite a few larger jades and mammoth sized plants for sale there (albeit, understandably, for a lot more than $7 😂) , but I consider this old man of a jade her official seal of approval for their amount of care for their plants.

Yesss the marbles are so pretty! I had three different types of variegated obtusifolia at one point. I still have the marble thankfully, but I let the others go two moves ago 🥲 I love your grandma memories, that’s so sweet 🥰 And her jade!! 😍 I’ve only ever seen a jade flowering one other time, at a historical reenactment museum with an operational Victorian garden

Thank you ☺️ I’m always a little worried I’d bore people with all my stories about her, but she was in all seriousness the sweetest woman I’ll ever know, and she’s who got me into plants. She was also ridiculously magical with plants, so I’m not so sure mine’ll ever become as flower-filled as hers, but one’s a cutting from hers and one’s from Ott’s, so I’m hopeful! She was a little eccentric too. My mom’s told me stories about how she’d pull her car over and clip a cutting off of plants and wildflowers they’d pass by and propagate them. She was the OG stealer of “free” fallen succulent leaves at the plant stores 😂 she also used to make a lot of flower arrangements and fake bonsai trees with dried flowers and even made little Christmas trees with red and green plastic feathers from the dollar store and little plastic ornaments. I’ve got a cabinet full of the ones we have left along with all her other keepsakes, kinda like a year round ofrenda for her. And here’s to hoping you find more peperomia to replace the ones you had to give away 🤞
