A month ago, I was wrongfully terminated from what I truly believed was my dream career. I worked hard to get there, so losing it the way I did sent me into a depression that I honestly wasn’t prepared for. Then I bought one plant. 🪴 It wasn’t supposed to become a “thing.” I just needed something positive, something to take care of while I was trying to figure out how to take care of myself again. Somehow, that one plant became two… then five… and now, less than a month later, I have well over 10 plants. 😂🌱 Learning about them, checking their roots, figuring out their lighting, watching for new growth, repotting them, and yes… giving every single one of them a name 😂 has given me something healthy to pour my energy into. I’m still processing what happened. I’m still figuring out what comes next. But my little indoor jungle has reminded me that losing one chapter of your life doesn’t mean you stop growing. Sometimes new growth starts in the most unexpected places. 🌱💚

Glad to hear that your plants bring so much happiness. This is the way it should be. Good luck with the new chapter in your life. It can work out to be even better than your previous chapter.

Best post I’ve read in this forum, ever. I empathize fully. Same general thing happened to me, and the devastation was profound. Then, I lost both parents relatively close together in time. Then, I had to sell the family home and leave the state. Then, five weeks later, covid hit, and full lockdown descended. Naturally, I brought the six or so houseplants that I’d hauled from state to state with me—from NY to VT, to NY, to CT. One was from my father’s funeral. Someone was kind enough to send a living plant arrangement to his service with five different genuses. So, I divided each into their own pots, got this app, and, just as you describe, sorta fell into the cultivation and care endeavor as a habit—and, in time, as a part of healing, and the feeling each day of looking after little growing forms of life—something that asks so little, and yet offers a great deal. Now, my house is overflowing with green friends. Each has a unique, custodian(me)-given name. Each one takes me out of my head and my worries, and shows me that renewal, strength, vitality, persistence, hardiness, and flowing to nature’s balance applies to humans, as well.
