Back again with the second Bear’s Paw Cactus that arrived in the mail this week 😊 feel free to turn this into a thread sharing your own Bear’s Paw cacti 🌵 For anyone wondering, I bought this one from Fijiplants on Etsy, they had a sale where you could buy one of these cuties and get a second one of the same size for $1.99 more. Cost $14.92 for two of these bad boys (not including shipping). Felt like such a steal. The second one lost a few more leaves and is drooping a bit from the trip, but the first one here was just fine. Gave it a repot and brushed off the soil that got on the leaves. I’m hoping the second one recovers while under some grow lights for the next couple of weeks

They’re very cute little plants. The leaves are soft and fuzzy. They’re fairly delicate, though, so I have to resist the temptation to pet the leaves all the time 😂 They also flower! I’m hoping to get one of mine to bloom someday 🌺

That’s a kalanchoe behartii! I had one named Bennie! 😊 (they’re one of my favorites out of Kalanchoes, actually) Would you like some care tips for it?

Ok I’m glad you could ID it. I assume it wants bright light and very little water? Any special tips are welcome. I want it to thrive. Now I just need a cute name for him.

Here’s the ID link to start https://link.getplanta.com/bFDkIzA4TD - Wait 18-25 days before watering. Let the soil completely dry out between waterings. Never mist. Never clean leaves. - You can use a toothpick or wooden skewer to test if the soil is dry enough to water. If the stick comes out clean, it’s safe to water. If the soil sticks to it, wait at least 2 days, then test it again. - Placing the plant in a bowl/container with water for 10-20 minutes then resting it to dry is a great way to water it without getting the leaves wet.   - Enjoys part-sun, part-shade to full sun/at least 4-6 hours of sunlight. - Best kept at 64-75°F. lowest temp survivable is 41°F. This plant is sensitive to drafts and should be pulled from cold spots in the winter. - Common problems are spindly growth/stretching (needs more light), yellow leaves and root rot (overwatering), and shriveled leaves (underwatering).  - Treat mealy bugs, scales, and aphids with isopropyl alcohol on a q-tip. Don’t let alcohol touch the soil. Treat thrips with insecticidal soap. - Repot every year with cactus and succulent mix. I use Espoma’s Organic Cactus and Succulent mix for mine. Avoid Miracle Grow’s soil as it isn’t well-draining enough, even their cactus mix. - Toxic to pets if eaten.

As for names, I named mine Bennie after the B in Behartii 😂 but some possible contenders - Sam - Charlie - Jimmy - Jamie - Leo - Lenny - Phineas - Gary - Percy - George - Louie - Keanu Leaves - Greg - Darwin - Maurice - Nino - Nico - Andy - Danny - Oliver (Ollie, for short) - Kai - or Mischa (which I believe is a colloquial term for “bear” in Russian, and a nickname for Mikhail) My mom named my bear paw cactus that after Mikhail Baryshnikov, the dancer. She was a big fan of his work when she was learning how to dance in Philly. When I can’t pick one name or think of any names for my plants, I post about it on the “anything about plants” group and folks usually help me out with their suggestions 😊

This is some great information! I copied and pasted it into the notes on Lil Lenny’s page. Thanks!

I can’t argue with that 😊 I wish they were a little more popular so I didn’t have to hunt for them online. I’d been looking for one at my local nurseries for about 2 years now, and any time I finally saw one, it was in the winter, and back when I didn’t have grow lights, so I didn’t wanna risk it. I’ve got grow lights now and FINALLY found 3 little ones at a nursery I was applying to work for, and combined them to make my first of these lil guys. The ones I got off of Etsy thankfully arrived in very good shape 😮‍💨 This is my first one, Tae.
