Recently took a progress photo of one of my favorite plants from my collection, my ‘Mona Lisa’ Lipstick Plant, Monique. Would love to turn this into a thread to see everyone else’s lipstick and goldfish plants, so if you have one, please feel free to show yours off! 😊 (and I’d love to see any other flowering species in spite of all this imminent winter weather) I consider them criminally underrated, and very low maintenance for a flowering houseplant. Highly recommend picking one up if you’re looking for a unique and pet-friendly addition to your collection. 🌸

Highly recommend getting one if you ever spot one! The only finicky thing about them is repotting. I’d recommend waiting at least a month before repotting them, and covering any exposed roots in Bonide’s Rooting Hormone Powder. I’ve found they do best in cactus mix. I keep mine and the rest of my lipstick plants in Espoma’s Organic Cactus Mix, but epiphytic-specific mixes are also good for them. You just have wait a little longer for it to acclimate to the change in temperature and humidity when it enters your home, or you have a higher risk of shock from repotting it too soon. They don’t like aggressive repottings that involve fooling with their roots too much either, but this is all typical of plenty of other plants. If you’re used to waiting before repotting, that’s the only thing I find remotely tricky with it.

No problem! Mine is a rescue from Lowe’s, but I’d recommend getting one from a nursery that’s much more likely of potting it in the right soil the first time around so you don’t have to aggressively repot it. My favorite local nursery in Ott’s Exotic Plants in PA, but if you’re looking for an online nursery that ships, I’ve seen them for sale from Steve’s Leaves.
