So I planted these plum trees this past spring therefore it's their 1st chilly season. Is anyone experienced with plum trees? Do you do anything special to get them thru the colder season? Any tips, ideas, knowledge, or advice is greatly appreciated, these are my babies đź’š. This is a current picture of them, so far they seem fine, so just preparing myself. Thanks in advance!

I grew up in Michigan where fruit trees including plums were in every yard. Plum trees need to over winter to produce flowers. They need several weeks of low temperatures. I’m sure there are new hybrids I know nothing about. There may be some that don’t need that. You can protect the roots on newly planted young trees by adding 6” of mulch around the base. The mulch settles to about 4” high over time. 🪴🍀

Mulch as stated above and we give all our fruit trees a fertilizer spike every spring and fall so they have food over winter and through summer. You just hammer them into the ground around the ball and the slowly break down to feed them.
