I just got this Prayer Plant from someone. Any recommendations on how long can I leave it in water? And why are the leaves getting brown from the ends? Thank you in advance. :) - a relatively new plant parent

My first house plant was a prayer plant! The leaves can turn brown for 1000 reasons 😂 they are so picky! But actually: prayer plants like lots of bright, indirect light. Leaves can turn brown from too much direct sun! They can also turn brown from being under or overwatered, but since your plant is propagated in water that is not the likely culprit here. Are there roots that have grown from the plant? If they are ~1.5 inches you can pot the whole plant in soil and a pot with a drainage hole :) This is all just from my personal experience with my prayer plant, but I hope it helps!

another reason for the brown tips could be the water type. Mine would get that with tap water. Calatheas have a lime sensitivity so you need to use distilled, rain, or treated water. I use fish aquarium water treatment drop things on recommendation from plant father user on here which is much cheaper and resourceful than buying distilled water in jugs all the time. I might even venture to using filtered water from a brita in the future and then the drops but I’m trying out just tap with the drop. It’s much better now for Calathea!
