Systemic... bonide or SNS 209. And or nematodes: Steinernema feltiae
1 gillaSystemic is very toxic so if that’s not your vibe, the long term solution is to get better draining soil. Water with mosquito bits or dunks, and use sticky traps until they stop showing up. as the weather cools they should be less of a problem 🤞🏻
4 gillningarThank you! I’ve seen people use mosquito bits, so I may give that a try, plus sticky traps! 🤞🏼
0 gillningarNot all systemic is highly toxic. The 209 is rosemary extract and plant and kid safe
2 gillningarMosquito dunks (all we can get up in Canada) takes a little while to fully quell the problem. Took about 2 months for mine to go away. I have a 15L water jug that I got a dispenser and I just leave half a dunk in a teabag and let it sit at least 12hrs before I start watering plants. After that I just leave the dunk in until it’s too disintegrated and repeat.
1 gillaI found that adding more draining media like perlite and orchid bark helped the soil dry quicker after watering and reduced the fungus gnats a lot! Also try bottom watering that helps too! But of course bottom watering isn’t always appropriate. I bought some rock stuff I forget the name of that you put over the surface of the soil to stop fungus gnats which honestly didn’t actually work for my plants that were infested they didn’t seem to mind it but it still might work for yours!
3 gillningarOh but sticky yellow strips work really well too apparently! Cheap on Amazon too!
1 gillathis is really good advice! the well draining factor is key
