Philadelphia, Pennsylvania! 1 snipped pad in 2021, from a near by neighbor’s hanging-into the-ally plant, has produced so many pads. And this year, the second year, I’m being thanked by that pad, and its descendants, with all these yellow, sun bursting, gorgeous flowers!

0개 좋아요 Hello, The fruit part eludes me. After the flowers die off I’m left with nubs. Are they the fruit because they never get to be anything more than the nubs. In the image, the nub that’s pink is actually from last summer.
they need to be manually pollinated. a lot of them are self sterile, you need two genetically distinct plants in order to get a fruit out of the flowers. the nubs are what would've become the fruit if it had been pollinated. you can still eat those though! the whole plant is edible, just take the spines off and cook it. from what i hear it's similar to asparagus in flavor
