I appreciate this plant every day. She’s one of my oldest and definitely a favorite. She has brought me many years of joy with her daily blooms. Oxalis Triangularis.

How do you keep yours so full? Two years in a row now mine have gotten sparse and leggy

Do you use fertilizer? Mine likes frequent feeds

Hmm so that’s not the problem 🤔 Lighting? They’re usually fine with part sun, part shade in my experience

I dug out some of the rhizomes and added a little soil. I add about 1/2 in of cow manure in spring since the soil is drained of its nutrients being so old. I added Osmocote fertilizer beads last year. The summer heatwave damaged it. I fight red fungus once each summer with a fungicide or I leave it alone and the plant eventually recovers on its own. It dies back sometimes. So, I dug out as few rhizomes for propagation when it was at its worst. It suffered, then, recovered in October and November with cooler weather. I added SuperThrive and it helped a lot with the recovery. See August and September pictures. It stays in full sun all year and loves it. I bring it inside for a few days when the weather will be freezing. This plant can take winter. But, I don’t want the stem and leaves to die off. So, I move the pot inside on the coldest days. I water when the leaves fold like a half closed umbrella. Leaves may fold down at night and open at sunrise. Folded leaves at midday means it needs water. The pot is a Mexican terracotta pot , unglazed inside, with 1 inch thick walls. I got it from Lowes many years ago. I will have to break it to eventually repot.

I love these too! I put mine into dormancy to store it for the winter, but I’ve been missing it!

It’s cool that they hibernate like bears and come back looking perky. 😁

I have one that I thought I had killed so I cut it down to its roots and set it aside. A few weeks later it grew back and it now looks better than it ever did! These guys are persistent little fighters (and beautiful).

Sometimes they just need to rest and build more energy.
