Evil Plant Dad

This is my pride and joy. Not is it almost every favorite plant I own. But the project in making this IKEA grow cabinet was one of the most challenging projects Iā€™ve taken on. Fully automated lighting, circulation, and humidity controlled by smart thermometers/power strips. Lights start the day on the left and end on the right to simulate the sunā€™s movement. Iā€™ve started each one of these from a baby and each plant inside has been thriving since entry. I find myself pulling up a seat and just staring at this cabinet more than I even watch tv. So fun finding new growth each day on all these plants.

    It looks great. Iā€™ve avoided buying one of these because of the drilling into metal part. I just got comfortable drilling holes in my own pots. Not ready for that yet! Your potting mix looks fun too! What plant is that in the clear glass pot? Iā€™ve seen it before but canā€™t remember what it is. Pretty! Enjoy your work!

      Thank you! I have two clear glass pots thereā€™s the plumosa fern and the Labisia turtle back. The drilling wasnā€™t too bad, I did have to learn not to press hard and just let it slowly grind through or it would jerk my arm. I joined a Facebook group and got a ton of great tips and support there. My problem was I bought stuff and then read in the group it was wrong so I bought and returned every item at least once šŸ˜‚. The soil is PON btw, when you have a ton of plants itā€™s really nice because it has a reservoir of water at the bottom so you only water every 2 weeks or so.

    Yes the turtle one! I love it. At least you can find good tips on how to set up your cabinet. That makes it a bit less intimidating.

    Iā€™ve been dreaming of making one of these for a few months. The other day I was thinking about setting up the light rotation to mimic the sun. So cool that you added that feature!

      lol I have absolutely no idea if it helps but I felt like it could be beneficial, Iā€™ve heard some studies have said it is.
